scientist from Israel will present an outstanding research in Sweden

Samuels, who graduated from the Har Veguy High School in Kibbutz Dafna last summer, has been chosen to represent Israel in a gathering of young scientists from all around the world, who will present their research work to the 2011 Nobel Prize winners

"Students today graduate high school too often unable to think critically about science or pursue careers in science and engineering", concludes a report from science educators as has recently been published in USA by The National Research Council in a report, "A Framework for K-12 Science Education," that calls for reforming science teaching nationwide from kindergarten to high school.

"Science, engineering, and technology permeate nearly every facet of modern life, and they also hold the key to meeting many of humanity's most pressing current and future challenges. Yet too few U.S. warkers have strong backgrounds in these fields and many people lack even fundamental knowledge of them. This national trend has created a widespread call for a new approach to K-12 science education in the United States," begins the report.

Based on this report, sciences studies are taught too haphazardly in schools, therefore the report concludes, urging that its "framework topics" - physical sciences, life sciences, earth sciences and technology should be introduced to schoolchildren and steadily deepened in regular fashion, not taught only in a few grades and forgotten. Concepts such as "cause and effect" and testing hypotheses should be included at every level, instead of teaching science as a recitation of historical discoveries.

"Currently, science education in the U.S. lacks a common vision of what students should know and be able to do by the end of high school, curricula too often emphasize breadth over depth, and students are rarely given the opportunity to experience how science is actually done", said report panel chair Helen Quinn of the SLAC National Accelerator Laboratory in Stanford, Calif., in a statement.

Indeed, a well-known and worldwide problem. One, but most promising solution though, is increasing the mutual projects between local universities/research centers with local schools almost in each level.

Importantly, these kind of corporations need almost no special funding, but good will, vision and better understanding by the local universities and research centers that they must "start science education" long time before high school graduation. Believe it or not, it is possible indeed - much more science fairs at schools based on more scientific activities will return back children from Facebook to scientific laboratories later at the appropriate time. For many decades, this win-win situation of tightly bound collaboration among school teachers and their young students, in support of the parents, with local universities and research centers is wide spread and practical reality in Israel. From my experience, I can tell that such a project which has been initiated by a project of a high school student, eventually yielded a high scale research project which has been documented in more than dozen scientific articles (Google Foliar fertilizer therapy - Reuven Reuevni for more details). As I have previously mentioned, believe it or not, it is possible, more science fairs at schools based on more scientific activities will return back children from Facebook to scientific laboratories later at the appropriate time.

Maya Samuels, 18, of the northern community of Yesod Hama'ala, is so excited she has been having trouble sleeping in the past few days.

Instead, she devotes every available moment to rehearse the lecture she will be giving Nobel Prize laureates in Sweden in about 10 days.

Samuels, who graduated from the Har Veguy High School in Kibbutz Dafna last summer, has been chosen to represent Israel in a gathering of young scientists from all around the world, who will present their research work to the 2011 Nobel Prize winners.

She was invited to the event thanks to a unique method she developed, which prevents paint from fading. This discovery carries important implications in the fields of art, textile, the coloring of exterior surfaces and printing. Samuels conducted the research, under the guidance of Prof. Giora Ritbo, as part of her studies at the Science Education Center for Youth at Tel Hai College. Her discovery was selected out of 76 term papers of Israeli students at the Davidson Institute at the Weizman Institute of Science. She will be joining 23 outstanding young scientists from all around the world, who have been chosen to present their work to the Nobel laureates.

'Fascinating cultural experience'

Samuels got the idea for the study after reading that in Central America in the sixth century, clay stones were used to paint objects .Archeologists who found those items were found in excavations discovered that the clay had maintained its original color. Samuels decided to combine the clay with organic paint, hoping that would solve the discoloration problem.

Discoloration is a serious problem in the paint industry. The color fades due to a photochemical reaction created by light. "I was fascinated by this field and chose to use it for my term paper. My work looked into a solution for the problem by linking paint to clay mimerals

The Stockholm ceremony will be a good opportunity to meet people from all around the world who are involved in research, and it will likely be a fascinating cultural experience. This will be the first time I address such a big audience, and I'm slightly excited."

Samuels will have at least one supporter among the crow ,Prof. Shechtman ,of the Technion, Israel , who won the 2011 Nobel Prize in Chemistry. "I will try to reach him and congratulate him for the long journy he made and for this great achievement" said Samuels.

Dr. Irit Sasson, director of the Science Education Center for Youth at Tel Hai College, says that "while working on the project, Maya was exposed to scientific working methods and tools, and combined the study of relevant scientific content, relevant literature and practical research."

This next part of the Genesis narrative concerns the six additional years Jacob worked for Laban beyond the agreed upon fourteen years and Jacob's dramatic and dangerous journey back to Canaan. He was not the same self-centered, ungrateful man he was when he first arrived in Haran. Jacob was humbled through his sufferings. He came to rely on God and to acknowledge the need for God in his life. The God of his fathers became his God.

This exit agreement eventually resulted in Jacob becoming far more wealthy than Laban, all at the expense of his father-in-law - Genesis 30:42-43. In effect, the end result was that Jacob bankrupted Laban - Genesis 31:14-16.

After twenty years of service, Jacob left Laban to go back to the Holy Land. It was not a friendly parting. Laban was unwilling that Jacob should go and Jacob went secretly. He called Leah and Rachel to him in the field and told them what he planned to do and they agreed to go. They rode on camels and crossed the river Euphrates and came down toward the land of Gilead, which is east of Jordan just across from the land of Canaan. They took with them the flocks and herds and all the goods that belonged to Jacob.

This exit agreement eventually resulted in Jacob becoming far more wealthy than Laban, all at the expense of his uncle - Genesis 30:42-43. In effect, the end result was that Jacob bankrupted Laban - Genesis 31:14-16.

Rachel and Lea – two persons in one woman in our daily life

The Accord of Finale

Jacob is seven Thora-weakly portion star for the following weeks, compared to three and one devoted to Abraham and Isaac respectively, certainly not surprising due to Jacobs' Biblical volume of activity and contribution as being the father of the Jewish people and the tribes. In the present Accord of Finale episode this time on his wives Rachel and Lea as we see them in our daily life - Leah had weak eyes, and Rachel was lovely in form, and beautiful and Jacobs' first- love. Lea and Rachel – his two wives that he got in return of seven and additional seven years while serving as a shepherd of his cousin sheep, are one.

Lea and Rachel – two figures to one woman. Now God had joined the two together, and they became one family. The two became one. Therefore, should any groom to know that everyone goes to sleep with "His Beautiful sight Rachel" - his bride, but wake up the next day with his Leah, "woman of valor", the devoted and faithful mother, who eventually, also won the tomb, to be buried next to Jacob at the Patriarchs Cave of the Patriarchs in the City of Hebron.

Jacob's Journey from Refugee Son to Patriarch in three episodes

In three weekly portions we read in Genesis the story of Abraham, the father of the monotheism, the believe in one God and therefore the strong personality who brought to the world the foundation of the Judaism, Christianity and Islam. In one weekly portion we read about Isaac his son and seven chapters - almost 20% of Genesis, are devoted to tell us the magnificent story of Jacob – the father of the Jewish People.

Seven years for Leah and seven for Rachel. In practical means, his work was to take care of Laban's great herds and flocks which fed in the broad pastures about Haran, being led at times a journey of some days away from home. These were the simple facts as the bible tells us. Is it was so simple and naïve indeed?

Practically, during fourteen years Jacob performed breeding experiments and over the years he was the first to elucidate and implemented the Low of Heredity that thousands years later will be known as The Mendel Lows of Heredity.

Mendel's Laws

The theories of heredity attributed to Gregor Mendel, based on his work with pea plants, are well known to students of biology. But his work was so brilliant and unprecedented at the time it appeared that it took thirty-four years for the rest of the scientific community to catch up to it. The short monograph, Experiments with Plant Hybrids, in which Mendel described how traits were inherited, has become one of the most enduring and influential publications in the history of science

Mendel's research reflected his personality. Once he crossed peas and mice of different varieties "for the fun of the thing," and the phenomena of dominance and segregation "forced themselves upon notice." He saw that the traits were inherited in certain numerical ratios. He then came up with the idea of dominance and segregation of genes and set out to test it in peas. It took seven years to cross and score the plants to the thousand to prove the laws of inheritance! From his studies, Mendel derived certain basic laws of heredity: hereditary factors do not combine, but are passed intact; each member of the parental generation transmits only half of its hereditary factors to each offspring (with certain factors "dominant" over others); and different offspring of the same parents receive different sets of hereditary factors. Mendel's work became the foundation for modern genetics.

The impact of genetic theory is no longer questioned in anyone's mind. Many diseases are known to be inherited, and pedigrees are typically traced to determine the probability of passing along an hereditary disease. Plants are now designed in laboratories to exhibit desired characteristics. The practical result of Mendel's research is that it not only changed the way we perceive the world, but also the way we live in it.

Mendel discovered that when crossing white flower and purple flower plants, the result is not a blend. Rather than being a mix of the two, the offspring was purple flowered. He then conceived the idea of heredity units, which he called "factors", one of which is a recessive characteristic and the other dominant. Mendel said that factors, later called genes, normally occur in pairs in ordinary body cells, yet segregate during the formation of sex cells. Each member of the pair becomes part of the separate sex cell. The dominant gene, such as the purple flower in Mendel's plants, will hide the recessive gene, the white flower. After Mendel self-fertilized the F1 generation and obtained the 3:1 ratio, he correctly theorized that genes can be paired in three different ways for each trait: AA, aa, and Aa. The capital "A" represents the dominant factor and lowercase "a" represents the recessive. The last combination listed above, Aa, will occur roughly twice as often as each of the other two, as it can be made in two different ways, Aa or aA.

Mendel stated that each individual has two factors for each trait, one from each parent. The two factors may or may not contain the same information. If the two factors are identical, the individual is called homozygous for the trait. If the two factors have different information, the individual is called heterozygous. The alternative forms of a factor are called alleles. The genotype of an individual is made up of the many alleles it possesses. An individual's physical appearance, or phenotype, is determined by its alleles as well as by its environment. An individual possesses two alleles for each trait; one allele is given by the female parent and the other by the male parent. They are passed on when an individual matures and produces gametes: egg and sperm. When gametes form, the paired alleles separate randomly so that each gamete receives a copy of one of the two alleles. The presence of an allele doesn't promise that the trait will be expressed in the individual that possesses it. In heterozygous individuals the only allele that is expressed is the dominant. The recessive allele is present but its expression is hidden.

Mendel summarized his findings in two laws; the Law of Segregation and the Law of Independent Assortment.

Law of Segregation - The "First Law"

The Law of Segregation states that every individual possesses a pair of alleles for any particular trait and that each parent passes a randomly selected copy allele of only one of these to its offspring. The offspring then receives its own pair of alleles for that trait. Which ever of the two alleles in the offspring is dominant determines how the offspring expresses that trait e.g. the color of a plant, the color of an animal's fur, the color of a person's eyes.

Law of Independent Assortment - The "Second Law"

The Law of Independent Assortment, also known as "Inheritance Law" states that separate genes for separate traits are passed independently of one another from parents to offspring. That is, the biological selection of a particular gene in the gene pair for one trait to be passed to the offspring has nothing to do with the selection of the gene for any other trait. More precisely the law states that alleles of different genes assort independently of one another during gamete formation. While Mendel's experiments with mixing one trait always resulted in a 3:1 ratio between dominant and recessive phenotypes, his experiments with mixing two traits, dihybrid cross, showed 9:3:3:1 ratios. But the 9:3:3:1 table shows that each of the two genes are independently inherited with a 3:1 phenotypic ratio. Mendel concluded that different traits are inherited independently of each other, so that there is no relation, for example, between a cat's color and tail length.

Again, Mendel's research reflected his personality. Following is the story as we read in Genesis 30: 37-41

37 And Jacob took him rods of fresh poplar, and of the almind and of the plane-tree; and peeled white streaks

in them, making the white appear which was in the rods.

38 And he set the rods which he had peeled over against the flocks in the gutters in the watering-troughs where the flocks came to drink; and they conceived when they came to drink.

39 And the flocks conceived at the sight of the rods, and the flocks brought forth streaked, speckled, and spotted.

40 Ans Jacob separated the lambs - he also et the faces of flocks toward the streaked and oll the dark in the flock of Laban--and put his own droves apart, and put them not unto Laban's flock.

41 And it came pass, when so ever the stronger of the flock did conceive, that Jacob laid the rods before the eyes of the flock in the gutters, that they might conceive among the rods;

42 but when the flock were feeble, he put them not in; so the feebler were Laban's, and the stronger Jacobs's.

43 And the man increased exceedingly, and had large flocks, and maid-servants and men-servants, and camels and asses.

In summary: "And Jacob took his rods of green poplar, and of the hazel and chestnut tree; and pilled white starks in them, and made white appear which was in the rods. And he set the rods which he had pilled before the flocks in the gutters in the watering troughs when the flocks came to drink, that they should conceive when they came to drink. And flocks conceived before the rods, and brought forth cattle ring-straked, speckled and spotted. And Jacob did separated the lambs" Genesis 30: 37-41

In fact, the first breeding program ever reported, according to Feliks (*), was thoughtfully conducted by Jacob when he was serving his father-in-law, Laban, in order to obtain his young and beautiful second wife, Rachel. In the above verses from Genesis, the "markers" on the rods of green poplar, hazel, and chestnut that Jacob had been using in the field were simply a means of masking his keen perception of the laws of heredity that he practiced as a "clever" breeding program. These "markers" on the rods were simply to avoid the possibility that one can mimic his real breeding program or follow his long term research that he has been doing. Jacob apparently knew that the hybrids derived from white sheep and black goats, which carried recessive genes of "spottedness", matured sexually earlier than the pure monochromes in the flock. He mated the hybrids (black and white animals), and their recessive genes emerged to produce maximally spotted offspring in each generation, a process that thousands of years later was to be scientifically reported and documented in the Mendelian Laws of Heredity, see Reuveni, R**).)

Again, it took seven years to cross and score the plants to the thousand to prove the laws of inheritance! From his studies, Mendel derived certain basic laws of heredity, for Jacob it took fourteen years though!!! Assuming that practically, during fourteen years Jacob performed breeding experiments through which he could anticipate the color and shape of the goats and sheep fur and therefor over the years he was the first to elucidate and implemented the Lows of Heredity. Now Jacob is ready to conduct his Exit Part – the agreement with Laban, regarding his expected wages for the next six years period to work for him. His success for the next six years is obvious and no doubt.

Jacob's Journey from Refugee Son to Patriarch in three episodes

Jacob, Lea and Rachel – Is it was a Love Story?

Episode l

Jacob labored for fourteen years as an unpaid indentured servant for his uncle Laban in payment for Leah, the bride he didn't want, and for Rachel, who he loved. And so Jacob worked for his uncle for fourteen years to get his beautiful wife Rachel, but to Jacob, the years seemed like nothing at all. Just to be near the one he loved was enough to fill his heart. Is it was really so??? The following is the story:

Jacob in fact was running from his brother Esau.

The following are the simple detailed of a "love story" as we read in the Bible - Genesis 30:25-33:

Jacob had tricked his brother out of their father’s blessing, and now Esau was so angry, he wanted to kill him. So Jacob in fact was running from his brother Esau:
Jacob was traveling east, to the land where his grandfather Abraham was born.
Being led at times a journey of some days away from home, he was also hoping to choose a wife from his grandfather's family.

Early on a warm afternoon, he came to a well in the fields outside the town of Haran.
The well was just like the one that his grandfather’s servant had come to many years before, when he was looking for a wife for Isaac. It may have been the very same one.
Three flocks of sheep were lying in the fields beside the well, waiting for their shepherds to water them.

There was a large stone covering the well, and the shepherds had to wait until all the shepherds were there before they could move it. So Jacob came up to the shepherds and said, “My friends, where are you from?” “From Haran,” they answered. “Then you must know my uncle Laban! He is from Haran,” Jacob said. “Yes, we do,” the shepherds answered. “Is he well?” Jacob asked.
“He is well, indeed,” the shepherds said, “And look, here comes his daughter Rachel now, with his flock of sheep!” Jacob said, “Let’s roll back the stone so that we can water the sheep.”
“We can’t, the stone is too heavy," the shepherds answered ."We have to wait until all the shepherds are here.”

At that moment Rachel arrived with her father’s sheep. When Jacob’s eyes met Rachel’s, it was as if the world came to a stop. The crying of the sheep, the laughing and talking of the shepherds, all seemed to disappear. It was as if there was no one else in all the world but the two of them.

Jacob fell so deeply, crazy in love with Rachel, that he walked over to that huge stone and rolled it away himself.
"Here, now you may water your sheep" he said to Rachel.
And then he kissed her.
“I am your relative. Your aunt Rebekah is my mother,” he told her at last.

Rachel ran home to tell her father all that had happened. When her father heard the news, he ran to meet Jacob. He hugged and kissed this nephew he hadn't known until now, and brought him to his home.

When Jacob had told his story, Laban said, “You are indeed my own flesh and blood!”
And so Jacob stayed with his uncle’s family for a whole month. Then Laban said to Jacob, “You shouldn’t have to work for me for nothing just because you are my relative! How can I pay you?”

Now, Laban had two daughters. Rachel was the younger, and Leah was the older. Leah had beautiful eyes, but Jacob was in love with Rachel. And so Jacob said, “I will work for you for seven years if you will let me marry your daughter Rachel.”
Laban said, “I would rather give her to you than to anyone else.”
And so Jacob worked for his uncle for seven years.
But to Jacob, the years seemed like nothing at all. Just to be near the one he loved was enough to fill his heart.

Finally, the day came that Jacob had worked for all those years. At last, Laban gave his daughter Rachel to be married. There was a great wedding feast. And that night, under a sky of shining stars, Rachel came to Jacob’s tent. She was wrapped from head to foot in layers of veils and flowing robes.

Jacob took her by the hand and led her inside. He wrapped his arms around her and held her tight. They were alone together at last. And that night, in the eyes of God, Rachel became Jacob’s wife, and he became her husband.

Before that night they were two separate people. Now God had joined the two together, and they became one family. The two became one.

But, when the light of morning came, Jacob awoke to a big surprise.
It wasn’t Rachel he had married at all! It was her sister Leah he was lying beside!
Jacob jumped from his bed and ran straight to the tent of his Uncle Laban.
“You tricked me! You promised me Rachel, but you gave me Leah instead!”
Well - look who's talking! The cheater got cheated. He didn’t like it very much.

Laban said to him, “It isn’t our custom to give the younger daughter in marriage before the older. Work for me another seven years, and I will give you Rachel as well.”
And so Jacob agreed, and Jacob and Rachel were married at last.
Jacob worked for his uncle another seven years.

Fourteen years for a woman – what a great love, if it was really so?
He would have gladly worked a hundred, he loved her so deeply.

Israel's education system's budget will be increased by 30%

Change in priorities: Billions of shekels will be diverted from defense to education, which will reduce disparities in the medium and long term. For example, NIS 550 million will be allocated to the strategic program of the Ministry of Education, and will include, inter alia, improving achievements and expanding the computer communications network to hundreds of schools on the periphery. NIS 620 million will also be allocated to continuing the New Horizon reform.

√Six-year plan for higher education: An additional NIS 7.5 billion, of which NIS 1.3 billion are already in the current budget, will be allocated to a comprehensive reform in the budget model.

Higher education is Israel's genuine growth engine and a vital tool for the country's continued growth

Finance Minister Yuval Steinitz explained the reform. "We are taking the cuts from the defense budget and putting 40% of it towards the reform in higher education," he said. "We will add NIS 1.3 billion (roughly $300 million) for higher education beyond the natural increase." He noted that the addition would not have been possible without the cut of at least NIS 3 billion ($800 million) from the defense budget's increase.

Steinitz explained that 40% had been cut from the defense budget for "use in higher education... We will add NIS 2.3 billion to higher education beyond natural growth." According to the finance minister, the addition would not have been possible without the minimum NIS 3 billion cut from the defense budget.

"Israel's economic success, which is very impressive, is based primarily on human capital, human capital at its highest level which is based first and foremost on the higher education system," Steinitz said at his opening remarks. "When I was still in the education system did I realize that true reform is needed to move academics forward? I must say, looking at the Treasury, we have needed to change the budget since 2000."

"This reform is for the country and for the students," added the finance minister. "The students will be able to receive teaching at a higher level. The product, after three years or six years of study, will be a better, higher quality product, which will be valued more, in Israel and abroad."

The education minister noted that, "One thing which Israel excels in compared to other countries is the population's degree of accessibility to higher education."

"Along with strengthening the accessibility, we want to strengthen the institutions, to enable the recruitment of young, qualified faculty, to strengthen the infrastructure of teaching and research, to enable quotas in the addition of students, with an emphasis on institutions in the periphery and Jerusalem."

As part of the reform, NIS 500 million will be allocated to the higher education of the Arab and ultra-Orthodox populations, explained Saar.

Although the difficulties of developing the country often times seemed overwhelming, by the end of the 1920s, the Jewish population in Palestine had grown to 160,000. Not only was the land being cultivated more effectively and efficiently, urban areas and industry was also growing. The city of Tel Aviv developed next to the port of Jaffa, and everyone was benefiting from the high-quality medical care available and the scientific control of malaria.

Volcani Institute of Agricultural Research

The Volcani Institute of Agricultural Research is an agricultural research center in Beit Dagan, Israel.

The Volcani Institute is named for its founder and director for 30 years, Yitzhak Elazari Volcani. It was the first agricultural research institution in Palestine. It began as an agricultural experimental station in Ben Shemen. In a proposal to Chaim Weizmann, then President of the Zionist Organization, and Arthur Ruppin, then head of the Settlement Department, the Zionist Executive called for the establishment of an institution to foster the development of agriculture in the Jewish state.

In 1932, the Agricultural Research Station of the Jewish Agency for Palestine, as it was called, moved to Rehovot, where it remained for nearly 20 years. It engaged in research and agricultural counseling. In 1951, after the establishment of the State of Israel, jurisdiction was transferred to the Israeli Ministry of Agriculture. The institute has developed a broad spectrum of applied research activities in addition to basic research projects.

Under the aegis of the Ministry of Agriculture, the institute moved to its present premises at Beit Dagan. In addition, it operates regional stations and experimental plots all over the country. The areas of research include field and garden crops, fruit trees, farm animals, soil and water, plant protection, food technology, and agricultural machinery.

The Volcani Institute of Agricultural Research, which bears the name of its founder and director for 30 years, the late Professor Yitzhak Elazari Volcani, in October 1971 celebrated its fiftieth anniversary and that of organized agricultural research in this country.

The Institute was the first research institution in Israel. Its conception and birth as an "agricultural experimental station of the Zionist Executive in Eretz Yisrael" took place at the Ben Shemen farm which was the site of early agricultural experimentation. The decision to found it was taken following a memorandum presented to Dr. Chaim Weizmann, then President of the Zionist Organization, and to Dr. Arthur Ruppin, then head of the Settlement Department, pointing out the necessity of establishing such an institution to foster the development of agriculture in the country.

The first premises occupied by the research institution as such were in Tel Aviv. In 1932, the Institute moved to Rehovot and was renamed "The Agricultural Research Station of the Jewish Agency for Palestine." It remained within that framework for nearly 20 years, dealing with research as well as with agricultural counseling. At the same time, the Institute engaged in teaching to a limited extent, providing all the teachers for the Institute for Agricultural Studies which later became the Faculty of Agriculture of the Hebrew University.

In 1951, after the establishment of the State of Israel, the Institute was transferred to the jurisdiction of the Israel Ministry of Agriculture, and is now the main research facility of the government in the field of agriculture. Instructional functions have now given way almost entirely to research. The Institute's stated purpose is the practical solution of problems confronting local agriculture. In order to accomplish this, the Institute has developed a broad spectrum of applied research activities connected with its basic research projects, and this double-barreled approach is typical of all its departments.

The Hebrew University of Jerusalem is Israel's second-oldest university, after the Technion – Israel Institute of Technology was established at 1918 and its first Board of Governors included Albert Einstein, Sigmund Freud, Martin Buber, and Chaim Weizmann.

The dream of establishing a "University of the Jewish People" in the Land of Israel formed an integral part of the early Zionist vision. With the acquisition of the Gray Hill estate atop Mount Scopus, and the laying of the cornerstone for the university-to-be in 1918, the realization of the dream was on its way.

Seven years later, on April 1, 1925, the Hebrew University of Jerusalem was opened at a festive ceremony attended, among others, by leaders of world Jewry including the University's founding father, Dr. Chaim Weizmann, distinguished academics and communal leaders of the Yishuv, and British dignitaries including Lord Balfour, Viscount Allenby and Sir Herbert Samuel. Also in attendance were Chief Rabbi Abraham Isaac Hacohen Kook, the poet Haim Nahman Bialik and many others.

The First Board of Governors of the University, chaired by Dr. Weizmann, included such luminaries as Albert Einstein, Sigmund Freud, Martin Buber, Haim Nahman Bialik, Asher Ginsberg (Ahad Ha'am), Dr. Judah Leib Magnes, James Rothschild, Sir Alfred Mond, Nahum Sokolov, Harry Sacher and Felix M. Warburg.

The Weizmann Institute of Science is a university and research institute in Rehovot, Israel that was founded in 1934.

Founded in 1934 by Chaim Weizmann and Benjamin M. Bloch as the Daniel Sieff Research Institute, it was renamed the Weizmann Institute of Science in his honor on November 2, 1949. Before he became President of the State of Israel, Weizmann pursued his research in organic chemistry at its laboratories. The Weizmann Institute presently has about 2,500 students, staff, and faculty, and awards M.Sc. and Ph.D. degrees in mathematics, computer science, physics, chemistry, biological chemistry and biology, as well as several interdisciplinary programs.^[3]

The Weizmann Institute of Science is known as Machon Weizmann, is a university and research institute in Rehovot, Israel. It differs from other Israeli universities in that it offers only graduate and post-graduate studies in the sciences.

It is one of the world’s leading multidisciplinary research centers, with around 2,500 scientists, postdoctoral fellows, Ph.D. and M.Sc. students, and scientific, technical, and administrative staff working at the Institute.

In 2011, the magazine The Scientist rated the Weizmann Institute as the best place in the world to work in academia among non-US institutions.

Why Are Jews So Powerful?

There are only 14 million Jews in the world; seven million in the Americas, five million in Asia, two million in Europe and 100,000 in Africa. For every single Jew in the world there are 100 Muslims. Yet, Jews are more than a hundred times more powerful than all the Muslims put together. Ever wondered why?

Jesus of Nazareth was Jewish. Albert Einstein, the most influential scientist of all time and TIME magazine's 'Person of the Century', was a Jew. Sigmund Freud -- id, ego, and superego -- the father of psychoanalysis was a Jew. So were Paul Samuelson and Milton Friedman.

Here are a few other Jews whose intellectual output has enriched the whole humanity: Benjamin Rubin gave humanity the vaccinating needle. Jonas Salk developed the first polio vaccine. Alert Sabin developed the improved live polio vaccine. Gertrude Elion gave us a leukemia fighting drug. Baruch Blumberg developed the vaccination for Hepatitis B. Paul Ehrlich discovered a treatment for syphilis (a sexually transmitted disease). Elie Metchnikoff won a Nobel Prize in infectious diseases.

Bernard Katz won a Nobel Prize in neuromuscular transmission. Andrew Schally won a Nobel in endocrinology (disorders of the endocrine system; diabetes, hyperthyroidism). Aaron Beck founded Cognitive Therapy (psychotherapy to treat mental disorders, depression and phobias). Gregory Pincus developed the first oral contraceptive pill. George Wald won a Nobel for furthering our understanding of the human eye. Stanley Cohen won a Nobel in embryology (study of embryos and their development). Willem Kolff came up with the kidney dialysis machine.

Over the past 105 years, 14 million Jews have won 15-dozen Nobel Prizes while only three Nobel Prizes have been won by 1.4 billion Muslims (other than Peace Prizes).

Why are Jews so powerful? Stanley Mezor invented the first micro-processing chip. Leo Szilard developed the first nuclear chain reactor. Peter Schultz, optical fiber cable; Charles Adler, traffic lights; Benno Strauss, Stainless steel; Isador Kisee, sound movies; Emile Berliner, telephone microphone and Charles Ginsburg, videotape recorder.

Famous financiers in the business world who belong to Jewish faith include Ralph Lauren (Polo), Levis Strauss (Levi's Jeans), Howard Schultz (Starbuck's), Sergey Brin (Google), Michael Dell (Dell Computers), Larry Ellison (Oracle), Donna Karan (DKNY), Irv Robbins (Baskins & Robbins) and Bill Rosenberg (Dunkin Donuts).

Richard Levin, President of Yale University, is a Jew. So are Henry Kissinger (American secretary of state), Alan Greenspan (fed chairman under Reagan, Bush, Clinton and Bush), Joseph Lieberman, Maxim Litvinov (USSR foreign Minister), David Marshal (Singapore's first chief minister), Issac Isaacs (governor-general of Australia), Benjamin Disraeli (British statesman and author), Yevgeny Primakov (Russian PM), Barry Gold water, Jorge Sampaio (president of Portugal), John Deutsch (CIA director), Herb Gray (Canadian deputy PM), Pierre Mendes (French PM), Michael Howard (British home secretary) and Robert Rubin (American secretary of treasury).

In the media, famous Jews include Wolf Blitzer ( CNN ), Barbara Walters (ABC News), Eugene Meyer ( Washington Post ), Henry Grunwald (editor-in-chief Time), Katherine Graham (publisher of The Washington Post ), Joseph Lelyyeld (Executive editor, The New York Times), and Max Frankel (New York Times).

At the Olympics, Mark Spitz set a record of sorts by winning seven gold medals. Lenny Krayzelburg is a three-time Olympic gold medalist. Spitz, Krayzelburg and Boris Becker are all Jewish.

Did you know that Harrison Ford, George Burns, Tony Curtis, Charles Bronson, Sandra Bullock, Billy Crystal, Paul Newman, Peter Sellers, Dustin Hoffman, Michael Douglas, Ben Kingsley, Kirk Douglas, Cary Grant, William Shatner, Jerry Lewis and Peter Falk are all Jewish? As a matter of fact, Hollywood itself was founded by a Jew. Among directors and producers, Steven Spielberg, Mel Brooks, Oliver Stone, Aaron Spelling (Beverly Hills 90210), Neil Simon (The Odd Couple), Andrew Vaina (Rambo 1/2/3), Michael Man (Starsky and Hutch), Milos Forman (One flew over the Cuckoo's Nest), Douglas Fairbanks (The thief of Baghdad) and Ivan Reitman (Ghostbusters) are all Jewish.

To be certain, Washington is the capital that matters and in Washington the lobby that matters is The American Israel Public Affairs Committee, or AIPAC. Washington knows that if PM Ehud Olmert were to discover that the earth is flat, AIPAC will make the 109th Congress pass a resolution congratulating Olmert on his discovery.

William James Sidis, with an IQ of 250-300, is the brightest human who ever existed. Guess what faith did he belong to?

There are many different views on the practice of Shabbat (the Sabbath) amongst Messianic Jews and Christians. IsraelToday posed the following question to believers who live in the Land of Israel: How do you and your congregation observe the Sabbath? Here is how they responded:

Michael Decker – Attorney in Jerusalem

I work fulltime as a lawyer and often work 12-hour days. For me the Sabbath is something that I look forward to week to week. I shut my cell phone off and have focused time with my wife and children. It is a blessing in Israel that the majority of shops are closed and the streets are nearly empty.

To me the Sabbath is part of the pattern that God has given us, to work six days and rest on the seventh. It is not just

Most people in our congregation enjoy and appreciate the gift and the traditions of the Sabbath. This is carried out with a festive meal, traditional prayers, and candle lighting on Friday night with family and guests at home.

On the morning of the Sabbath we worship using the Siddur [Jewish prayer book] and read the Torah, Haftorah [passage from the Prophets], and New Testament portions of the week. Most of us live a lifestyle which honors and appreciates Jewish tradition but we do not claim to live strictly Orthodox lifestyles. Everyone in the congregation has to make their own decision as to how much of a traditional lifestyle they want to lead.”

I believe that God designated the Sabbath for rest. He wants us to cease from our weekly business in order to occupy ourselves in the worship of Him. Relationship with God is true rest.

On the Sabbath we invest all of our time in studying the word of God and in relationship with the body of Messiah.

We worship corporately together in the morning and then continue into the afternoon as we spend time together over a meal and enjoy conversation. Our time ends in the evening with a study from the Word of God or with an informal gathering with prayer concerning the week ahead. We base this practice on Colossians 2:16-17.

Life in Israel is very frenetic and we love the transformation that occurs Friday afternoon as the Sabbath approaches; the stores close, people return home to be with their families, and a blessed quiet descends upon Israel. The nation stops to honor God’s commandment.

Our congregation meets on Friday afternoon which enables us to welcome the Sabbath corporately. After the meeting, my wife and I host a traditional Erev Shabbat [Sabbath eve] dinner with family and friends.

On Saturday we devote the day to resting and often invite friends to join us for dinner. For us the Sabbath is a blessed gift from God. It gives us an opportunity each week to stop and enjoy the presence of the Lord together with those whom we love.

Gilad at home this is a fact. The release of more than thousand terrorist, indicates the power of the Jewish people rather than their weakness. It is defiantly prove once again the power and strength of the Jewish People and Israel that even one Jewish soldier life is worth thousand and much more terrorist. This is the power of the Jewish People and certainly the highest value of live ever paid and previously reported by any other nation in the world. Today, every and each Jew, wherever he lives, must feel proud and untied with the Land of Israel.

Once again, we all must remember where we live and what our neighbors really eventually want. Did you know that at beginning of the previous century, while the Jewish People were determined to establish Universities and Research Centers as we see them flourishing today, our neighbors were, and still, busy all the days and night long, to kill, murder and destroy each and every single place where Jews where living. Instead of joining the progress and prosperity that the Jewish People brought to the Land of Israel, they took the evil way of destruction. Here they are the high education institute as listed: The Technion – Israel Institute of Technology- is a research-intensive institute of technology in Haifa, Israel was founded in 1912. Its emphasis was on natural sciences, engineering, and architecture, and a school of medicine. The Hebrew University of Jerusalem is Israel's second-oldest university, after the Technion – Israel Institute of Technology was established at 1918 and its first Board of Governors included Albert Einstein, Sigmund Freud, Martin Buber, and Chaim Weizmann and The Weizmann Institute of Science, is a university and research institute in Rehovot, Israel that was founded in 1934. While we are discussing this issue, more five Jews are among the 2011 Noble Prize winners, on the top of the previous 165, one of latest is the tenth awarded to an Israeli scientist.

The Jewish people enemies, however, must know now, mainly those who will be released, that their life are about to be changed. They will not be "safe" and able to conduct long distance learning any more in the Israeli prison, their life will not be "safe" anymore, and eventually they, until the very last one, will find themselves under continuous chasing by the Israeli agents wherever they will stay in the world, until each and every one will pay the real price for murdering innocent people.
